Day two of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament started off with another close game on Monday as Alvin Community College beat Paris Junior College 8-7 in extra innings.
The loss eliminated Paris from the tournament and sent Alvin on to see day three. The Dolphins will face the loser of game eight ? which will either be Galveston or Blinn.
Alvin got on the board early, scoring one in the bottom of the first. They added another two unanswered runs in the third. Both teams failed to score in the fourth through sixth innings.
Paris rallied with a big seventh inning that scored six points for the Dragons. Alvin added two more in the bottom of the inning, leaving Paris ahead 6-5.
The Dragons put another run on the board in the top of the eighth, widening their lead to 7-5.
Alvin?s Chance Leissner remedied that in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a towering two-run homer over the left field fence. This tied things up 7-7 and sent the game into extra innings.
Both teams held in the tenth.† Alvin got two walks in the bottom of the 11th and then reached base on an error by the Paris first baseman. Herb Romero was able to score on the error to win the game 8-7 for Alvin.
In addition to Leissner?s critical homer, Nathon Lyons led the Alvin offense with three hits. Jarrett Johnson got the pitching win on .1 innings pitched, no nits, no runs and one walk.
Garrett Killlgore, Ryan Fickel and Justin Eckols had two hits apiece for the Paris offense. Alex Bruu got the loss on 1.1 innings pitched, no hits, one run and two walks.
