Alvin sends Blinn packing 6-4

The Alvin Community College Dolphins managed to hang on to see another game in the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament as they beat the Blinn Buccaneers 6-4 Wednesday afternoon.† Alvin will play again at 8 p.m. Wednesday to face Navarro for a chance to play on Thursday.

The Blinn squad showed signs of fatigue Wednesday after playing a marathon game the night before that went into the early morning hours.

Alvin was first to put a run on the board in the bottom of the first. Both teams held through the second and third before Blinn came back with a strong fourth inning. The Buccaneers scored four in the top of the inning and Alvin answered with one of their own, leaving the score 4-2 in favor of Blinn.

Alvin had a big inning in the bottom of the sixth and scored four additional runs, taking the lead 6-4.

No further runs were scored and Alvin put Blinn away in the top of the ninth with two strikeouts and a pop out to left field.

Herb Romero led the Alvin bats with three hits, including one double. Kris Looper pitched the win on 5.2 innings pitched. He gave up two hits, no runs and one walk. He struck out nine.

Kevin Hahn was credited with the loss for Blinn. He pitched 1.1 innings, walked one and struck out one.
