Navarro College dashed the tournament hopes of Texarkana College 2-1in game nine of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in the battle of the Bulldogs.
Navarro will play again Wednesday at 8 p.m. against the winner of the Alvin vs. Blinn match up.
No runs were scored in the first inning. Navarro started things off when they scored a single run in the top of the second. Both teams fought back and forth in the third through eighth innings, allowing no runs on either side.
Navarro put another run up in the top of the ninth, making the score 2-0 in their favor. Despite a one-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, Texarkana was unable to tie up the game to send it to extra innings.
Offensively, Weston Hall, Tyler Wilson, Craig McConaughy and Colton Besett each had two hits for the Navarro Bulldogs. Pitcher Zach Hobbs got the win for Navarro with nine full innings pitched. He allowed one run, one walk and struck out four.
Justin Copeland led the bats for Texarkana with three hits ? including a double. Jordan Zangarine got the loss for Texarkana with eight innings pitched. He gave up 10 hits, two runs and three walks. He struck out four.
