The 91²Ö¿â Eagles baseball season came to an end Monday afternoon as the team lost 9-1 to Texarkana College in game six of the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament. The game ended after eight innings due to the NJCAA run rule.

?This is a tough loss for us. We?ve gone back and forth with Texarkana throughout the season. Today, they just had our number,? Josh Stewart, NTCC Head Coach, said.

NTCC started off strong, scoring a run in the top of the first. The lead didn?t last long, however, as Texarkana answered with three runs in the bottom of the second.

The fourth and fifth went scoreless before Texarkana increased its lead by four more, making the score 7-1.† No runs were scored in the sixth and seventh.

Texarkana finished things up by adding another pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, putting the score at 9-1. This ended the game with the run rule.

Texarkana?s offense was led by Byron Reichstein and Levi Saxby, with two hits each. Almost every batter in the lineup had a hit for Texarkana.

?Those guys figured out our pitching and put the ball where our fielders couldn?t get it. They just out hit us,? Stewart said.

NTCC?s Zack Costa and Richard Bain led the Eagles? bats with two hits each.

Riley Wathen picked up the win for Texarkana with 6.1 innings pitched. He gave up five hits, no runs, two walks and struck out two. Tanner Allgood was credited with the loss for NTCC. He pitched 3 innings, gave up two hits and three runs, walked one and struck out two.

?Overall, I?m still very proud of our season. The tournament didn?t go the way we had planned, but that happens. All we can do is regroup and start preparing for next year,? Stewart said.

NTCC finishes the season 26-12 in conference.

Texarkana will move on to play the loser of the San Jacinto/Navarro match-up. That game will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
