The Continuing Education Department at 91²Ö¿â offers a variety of learning opportunities for members of the community. From personal enrichment classes to training for a new career, there are many non-credit options to choose from.
"There are a lot of benefits to enrolling in continuing education classes at NTCC. Our basic course rates are very affordable and students don't have to go through the formal college application process," Teresa Wooten, †NTCC Director of Continuing Education and Corporate Training, said.
In addition to courses for individuals, the NTCC Continuing Education Department also offers customized training for businesses. This can include everything from food handling and safety certification to computer classes.††"We try to be flexible in our programming. The world moves quickly and we want to be here to help our residents and local businesses keep up with changing technologies," Wooten said.††?Also, we are always looking for new classes to add; classes that will benefit the members of our community in their personal and/or professional life.?†Wooten encourages members of the community to contact her with new class ideas.
The following courses will be offered through the continuing education department in†March and April:
Advanced Excel Spreadsheet:††This four-week class offers a complete survey of Microsoft Excel advanced†skills. Topics covered include creating tables and outlines, creating pivot tables and macros, using financial functions and data analysis, auditing and additional functions (VLOOKUP, IF), and using advanced formatting and analysis tools.††Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. beginning March 22.†Industrial Technology Training Center in Mt. Art and Practice of Writing Speculative Fiction:††Lou Antonelli, whose short fiction has been published in the U.S., England, Canada, and Australia, will share writing tips and techniques designed to help students become published authors themselves.†During this six-week class, the student will discover reasons to write, writing fiction versus non-fiction, how to write science fiction-fantasy-and other genres, and how to ?peddle the final product.?†Don?t? miss out on this exciting opportunity.†Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. beginning April 12.†BT Building Room 109.†Instructor:†Lou Antonelli
Basic Firearm Safety:†Recommended for the novice or one without recent experience with handguns and/or for those planning to enroll in a Concealed Handgun License class.†Learn how to choose, inspect, and maintain the different type handguns.†This course will help expand your skills and attitude necessary to own and use a specific handgun safely.†Thursday, April 12, from 6-10 p.m. in BT Building Room 103. Computer-Learning the Basics:†This three-class, 21-hour course is designed to assist the novice to navigate the computer and will include three separate classes.†Open to all ages.†Thursday evenings, from 6-9 p.m. beginning March 29.†Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg.†Instructor:†Tammy Foster
Get Started-The Basics:†This two-week, six-hour class is designed to assist the student in becoming comfortable with the basic elements of a computer.†Topics discussed will include how to use the mouse and keyboard, setting screen preferences, personalizing your desktop, and how to use a printer or scanner. March 29-April 5.
Get Connected-The Internet:†This three-week, nine-hour class is designed to assist the student in becoming comfortable with utilizing the internet.†Topics discussed will include how to access the internet, how to set and use an email account, how to shop online, how to use internet auctions (EBay), how to use social networks (Facebook), how to access online maps and directions, and how to conduct online banking. April 12-April 26.
Get Moving-Microsoft Office:†This two-week, six-hour class is designed to assist the student in becoming comfortable with basic applications available in Microsoft Office.†Topics discussed will include basic word processing, basic spreadsheets, downloading and storing your photographs and files, creating a resume, and more.†May 3-May 10.
Country & Western Dance-Intermediate:†You?ve got the basics down for the†2-step, 3-step, the country waltz, and the cowboy cha-cha.†Now you are ready to ?turn up the heat? and really get down with ?boot scoot?n?.†Grab your partner and join Carolyn and Pat to improve your country and western dance skills.†Don?t miss out on the fun!†6:30-8:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings at the Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg beginning April 5. Self-paced, instructor-led Education To Go courses are offered to provide students with the opportunity to work at their own pace at their own convenience. Each course runs for six weeks and consists of twelve lessons. The lessons are supplemented by interactive quizzes, assignments, tutorials, and online discussion areas. All material will be made available to you over the World Wide Web. Read the lessons and ask questions of your instructor at times that are most convenient to you.
