I Musici de MontrÈal to perform at Whatley Center

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91ֿ will host a performance by the renowned chamber orchestra I Musici de MontrÈal on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m.†

The evening will include selections by Czech composer†Leo? Jan·?ek (1854-1928) and Russian composers Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) and Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881).†

I Musici de MontrÈal has developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the world's finest chamber orchestras. Known for its gutsy, passionate music-making, I Musici de MontrÈal presents imaginative programs that draw on repertoire spanning the centuries. In nearly ninety concerts a year at home and on tour, the orchestra's precision, cohesion, brio, and distinctive sound charm audiences and critics.†Fanfare†magazine recently added its voice to the chorus of praise when it named I Musici de MontrÈal†"one of the best chamber orchestras in North America."

A 15-piece chamber orchestra with a vast repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, I Musici de MontrÈal was founded in 1983 by cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky, who served as its conductor until May 2011. The orchestra?s exceptional quality drew early recognition and was named†Chamber Orchestra of the Year†by the Canadian Music Council. The ensemble has toured extensively in the last 27 years, giving audiences in 23 countries achance to fully appreciate the virtuosity and exceptional cohesion of its outstanding musicians and earning a distinguished reputation. Under the direction of Maestro Turovsky, the orchestra released more than 40 recordings, many of which have earned awards and distinctions both at home and abroad.
